How To Restore Hard Wood Putty?

There are multiple ways to restore your wood putty that has become hard in the jar.

Put a couple of drops of canola, vegetable, olive or any cooking oil into your wood putty and start to massage it into the product. Some have even used petroleum jelly. The putty will start to soften and come back to life. It may be easiest if you remove it from the jar and fold the oil into the putty.

You can put your wood putty in a bowl of hot water and let it soak. Then you can fold and knead it into your hands until it brings back it’s elasticity.

Test the temperature of the filler before using it to make sure it’s not too hot.

I will always have a special place in my heart for woodworking. I have such fond memories working on projects with my parents on the weekends in the garage growing up. We built tables, shelves, a backyard shed, 10' base for a water slide into the pool, 2 story fort playhouse with a fire pole, and so much more. This woodworking blog allows me to write helpful articles so others can enjoy woodworking as much as we have.
